Mounting the BMW K75 engine to the EPOXY ECHO

The subject of the project is the assembly of the BMW K75 engine to the Epoxy Echo stroller. The trolley will also be equipped, among others, with all-wheel hydraulic brakes, and adjustment of the pilot’s front seat.

The pilot seat (front seat) is equipped with a guide, which allows a wide range of seat position adjustment, and allows its tilt.

The existing hang glider chassis has a front drum brake and no brakes on the rear axle, it will be modified for hydraulic, disc, all-wheel system. For this purpose, the front wheel has been replaced with one that allows the brake disc to be installed, discs and distance hubs have been added to the rear wheels. There was also a need to make longer axles for the rear wheel, equipped with brake cylinder mounts and wheel fairings. The braking system has been pre-assembled and tested in the workshop.

The BMW engine was pre-equipped with a transmission and the first trimming of the engine into the truck was made.

After initial adjustments, the engine was made for the engine, and the tail modification was added – the cover of the fluid cooler. There will be intakes on the sides of the fairing that will direct the air stream towards the radiator during the flight. An engine cooling installation and exhaust manifold were also made.

Structural elements, collector, gear plate and engine lids went to shot blasting and powder coating. An assessment of the technical condition of the engine (condition of the shaft, bushes, camshafts, etc.) and adjustment of valve clearances was carried out. The engine has been refreshed, engine equipment has been installed, currently waiting for the return and installation of the rest of the elements that are currently painted.

Assembly works have begun, the hang glider is slowly taking shape 🙂

The first start 😉

The hang glider is almost ready, the last elements have been installed. In the meantime, engine adjustments, throttle synchro, propeller account setting and first load tests were carried out.
After the adjustments, an engine test was carried out, as well as a thrust test – 190kN at 7500 rpm on the engine – we expected it to be 🙂
